You can end your own account from inside the app, by yourself, in about four taps. Your login and your personal details are removed. The hours you were paid for stay with your employer, under your name, because payroll law requires that.

How to delete your account in the app

1. Open Forge Field and sign in.
2. Tap your initials in the top corner (on older versions, the gear) — it is on every screen — and scroll to the bottom of the sheet. Below Sign out, the last row is Delete my account.
3. Read what it says, type your password to confirm, and tap Delete my account.

Nobody has to approve it, and there is no request to file with your employer. It happens the moment you confirm.

What deleting does

• Signing in stops working immediately — on that phone and on every other device you were signed in on. Any unused sign-in code or access code stops working too.
• Your personal details are removed — the email address you signed in with, your password, your phone number, your home address, your notes and your app preferences.
• You come off the roster. You are no longer in the company contact list and can no longer be assigned to a crew or a job.

What is kept, and why

What stays is your name, your hours, the pay rate that was applied to them, and the jobsite location recorded at the moment of each punch. Those are your employer's time records.

They stay because they are not only yours: they are your employer's payroll records. Under the U.S. Fair Labor Standards Act an employer must keep payroll records for three years, and those records have to say who was paid. Deleting them is not something this app is permitted to do on your employer's behalf. If a company would rather not keep the punch locations, that is a decision for the company — ask your employer.

A security log of account events (an access code issued or used, an account recovery, this deletion) is also kept, stamped with the network address each came from. It holds no email address.

If you no longer have the app

Email [email protected] and say which company you worked for and the email address you signed in with. Deletion will be carried out for you within 7 days, and the same rule applies: identity removed, payroll records retained by the employer.

Two accounts that cannot be deleted this way

• The last owner of a company. Only an owner can make another owner, so a company with none could never add an employee or run payroll again. Make someone else an owner first, then delete — the app says this on the screen.
• The store-review demo account. It is the account app reviewers sign in with, and it cannot delete the door the next reviewer needs.
